Handling Essential Oils for Aromatherapy,Essential Oils,Aromatherapy TechniquesIts all in the blend.
Learning how to properly blend essential oils together is necessary for any budding aromatherapist. Essential oils are the basis for all aromatherapy techniques and it takes great skill to learn what mixes together and what does not. For example, ginger and frankincense are two opposing strong heavy smells. When mixed together they become very unpleasantly pungent. Lavender and rosemary however, are two scents that compliment each other when mixed together and no one scent overpowers the other.

It is advisable to use no more than three oils in a mixture to avoid over complication of the scents. Essential oils are highly volatile substances and they should be treated with the proper care and attention. Spilling a bottle of essential oil could release an overpowering smell in the room and be harmful for children and animals. Never try to judge a fragrance by smelling straight from the bottle of the essential oil. Place a drop on dish and enjoy the subtle fragrance it provides. To help learn more about blending take notes on the different smells of your essential oils.
